Overview: Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills

The Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills is a robusto named for its vitola, with a 55 ring gauge and measuring 130mm in length. The Wide Churchill is a new creation, being shorter and fatter than the classic Churchill or Julieta No. 2. They were released in 2010 and come available in boxes of 25.

Wrapped in a beautiful Colorado wrapper, the aroma that floated off the wrapper is a mild toast scent, while the cold draw is filled with cedar and baking spices.

Once lit the flavours off the top are a delicious blend of pepper and coffee with a touch of vanilla sweetness all wrapped into a thick creamy smoke that comes rushing out of the perfectly smooth draw. We found flavours of fruit, leather and baking spice in the second third, with some additional flavours of citrus and floral notes introducing themselves in the final third, closing out with an extra dose of coffee, nuts and pepper.

The strength and flavour settle quickly at a medium strength, with only a slight increase in the final third. You can expect to enjoy this fine cigar for around 90 minutes.

Quite the pleasurable experience lighting up this new edition from RyJ. Upon receiving the box I immediately smoked one and the first couple draws left me a bit worried. The deeper I got into the cigar the more impressed I became with bouquet of RyJ flavor. Letting the rest sit for a few days took care of any first draw disappointments. At a 55 ring gauge it’s quite a mouthful but steps up the flavor from the short churchill. I rated the flavor a 9 because with some age these will get even better. I haven’t been as impressed with a new release since the Monte Edmundo a few years back.

I’m an experienced cigar smoker and I’ve smoked all the major Cuban brands and sizes. The RyJ Wide Churchill is by far one of the best out there. Great construction, burn and the flavor profile is complex and outstanding. Love the wide ring gauge. It stays cool and flavorful to the very end. Cigar bliss. I have no doubt some time will turn these into classics.

was lucky to pick up a box from Lous when it was available, awesome looking wide stick with its 55 ring, feels like a king with this wide cigar in the mouth. taste is pretty much similar to the romeo regular churchill, guessing this wide stick would need quite a bit of time to age in the humidor before its true potential is revealed. currently its got a rich sweetness aroma, can’t wait to let it age to see how it improves.

This cigar is not quite what it should be I would recommend the Bella or the short Churchill, the cigar has hints of Romeo and Juliet but it’s as if you took a beautiful whiskey drink and added a bunch of water to it the cigar is mostly filler it lacks the leather and it lacks the strong characteristics that make up the Romeo and Juliet,it’s the light side of the cigar, to mild, will see how it ages, but typically when aging you have a good idea of what will become more smooth and what will develop, when you start out this weak it’s hard to say, but I have a box to find out, I would not recommend this part of the family, go with the original Churchill, number 4, short churchhill, the bella, all better in flavor and experience, but I have to say dam do you get a lot of smoke frome these, so cool and abundant, but lacking the brand characteristic and make it so desirable
