Overview: Quai D’Orsay Senadores Limited Edition 2019

The Senadores is a classic Hermoso No. 2 format, measuring 157mm in length with a 48 ring gauge.

In 2017 Habanos initiated a reinvention of the Quai D’Orsay brand by launching two new vitolas, the No. 50 & No. 54, with updated packaging and redesigned branded bands in an attempt to appeal to the current market favouring cigars thicker in size.

The Senadores was likely selected for the Limited Edition status in 2019 as a nod to this re-launch, as it is the first time Quai D’Orsay has been selected as part of the program. Like all Edición Limitada releases from Habanos, the Senadores contains tobacco that was aged for at least two years.

The aroma off the top of this cigar is a unique blend of chocolate nuttyness, floral and an oaky vanilla quality. Once lit the first third offered a burst of brown sugar mixed with spice that mingled with a floral undertone. The strength held steady at a mild, in the second third we detected notes of cinnamon, citrus and a dash of coffee with the strength slowly creeping up to a mild medium.

The draw on these cigars is sharp as a razor and the smoke is thick and abundant. The final third offers a major shift in flavours with a deep earthiness mixing with notes of peanut, hay, cocoa and licorice, reaching a solid medium strength. Expect to enjoy this smoke for around 90 minutes.

There is major aging potential for these young cigars, try resting them for 1-2 years to see how the flavours melt together.
