Overview: Montecristo Open Master

The Montecristo Open Master is a Robusto vitola, with a measurement of 124mm and a 50 ring gauge. Montecristo released the Open series in 2009, aiming to create a milder blend of cigars to lure in the novice cigar smoker or those just getting familiar with the power of the Cuban cigars.

The Open Master offered a light almond and toast flavour on the cold draw, with aromas of cedar and salt coming off the wrapper. Once lit we found mild flavours of almond, white pepper and coffee, delicately transitioning between touches of sweetness and spice to keep the smoker engaged.

The flavour picked up to a medium body in the second half, where new flavours came through including espresso, citrus and a dash of florals mingled with the prominent almond notes, creating a wonderfully balanced bouquet.

We recommend aging these cigars for at least two years to allow the flavours to settle and develop their complexity.

Probably One of the Best cigar I’ve ever had! Partagas D#4 the only close competitor.
    Rich smoke full of flavor.
    Pure enjoyment.
    Highly recommended!

Just received these from CL with a box of the Vega Robaina Famosos in the two-box combo. These babies were ready to smoke right out of the box. Its a good looking cigar with thin, but very present veins (like a muscled arm). Mellow, yet had a great complex spicy/creamy and towards the end cedary/woody flavor. I normally use a punch cutter and the draw is really great. I invited three guests to sample one over drinks at our local cigar club and everyone who smoked with me, just loved them. Not sure how long they will last because I really don’t want to smoke anything else. I tend to prefer cigars that are more of the “day-time” variety, and this baby can be enjoyed with coffee in the morning or afternoon, or with drinks at night if you don’t want something too overpowering.

Had the Open Eagle whilst on my honeymoon in St Lucia and thoroughly enjoyed it so I thought I’d give theses try too. Cigar Aficionado rated these (boxed in Oct 2015) a 93, with notes of nuts, rasin and cocoa. I definitely picked up notes of dried raisin and this robusta hit me in the mouth with cocoa flavor. The construction and burn were impeccable with copious volumes of rich smoke with each puff. Just: delicious!
