How to tell Real Cuban Cigars by Michael Randall

Cuban cigars are very sought after. The demand far outweighs the supply and that leads to fake cigars finding their way onto the market. Many times a vendor does not even realize they are selling fake Cuban cigars. This is why it is very important for a person to understand how to tell real Cuban cigars from fakes.

There are many things a person can look at to help them determine the authenticity of a cuban cigar. They can check out the packaging, the box and the cigar itself. It is perhaps easiest and best to know how to check out the cigar itself. This way if the packaging to box is not available a person can still tell if the cigar is real or a fake. A person needs to pay attention to detail when checking out a Cuban cigar. The following list explains some of the tell tale signs to look for when distinguishing a real Cuban cigar from a fake.

1. The cigars in a box should all be of a similar color. If there are varying in color they should be placed in order from dark to light.

2. The cigars should all be of the same size. They should be within 1/16th of an inch in size of each other. This is very easy to check and also one of the quickest ways to spot a counterfeit.

3. The cigars should be finely made. The tobacco should not be bunched up.

4. The cigar wrapper should not have large veins. If it is veined at all they should be very fine.

5. The rings should have solid color and be well printed. The bands should
also be tight fitting. Some embossing mistakes are actually common in Cuban cigars, so this should be overlooked.

6. The end of the cigars should be cut evenly and cleanly.

7. The cap should be folded precisely.

Spotting Cuban cigars is all about looking at the fine details. Plenty of care and precision is put into making Cuban cigars so a poorly made cigar or one with small mistakes is a sign of a fake cigar. A person can make it even easier to spot a fake Cuban cigar by studying real Cuban cigars. By looking at and getting to know the details of a real Cuban cigar a person can train themselves to spot flaws in a fake.

Knowing how to tell a real Cuban cigar from a fake is something very beneficial. Cuban cigars are very expensive and paying top price for a box of fakes can be rather disappointing. By learning the clues to look out for, though, a person can avoid getting duped by fakes and will be proud to know they are buying only the real thing.
