Review notes: I purchased this cigar from a local shop in Paris and stored it for several days in my humidor before smoking it. The wrapper was a nice uniform brown and exhibited some fine veining. The cap was tight and well constructed. The cigar was firm and the band fit tightly. Clipping the cap revealed a nice dense cross-section of tobacco leaf. Overall, the construction showed good quality.
The aroma of the cigar before lighting was rich with cedar and the pre-light draw was easy, but without much flavor. The cigar lit easily and began with an even ash.
As has been noted elsewhere, the flavor the Quai D'Orsays is very mild. The first two inches or so were predominately woody with a tiny amount of leather. The aftertaste was pleasant with the merest hint of sweetnees. The smoke aroma was very pleasant, too. By the beginning of the 2nd third, the cigar became a little more complex and started showing a little peppery flavor which was quite enjoyable.
Around this time I had difficulty with the burn. (It was a very windy day.) I had to touch up the cigar twice, but both times the cigar corrected itself and started to burn evenly again. I don't think I would have any problems if it hadn't been so windy. The ash was firm and white with flecks of black and gray.
The cigar remained extremely enjoyable continuing to build slightly in complexity until I finally put it down. I liked this cigar great deal and will be ordering a box as soon as they are back in stock -- but then again, I enjoy mild cigars. It will be a welcome addition to my humidor.
This is a quality cigar that would be perfect for Sunday brunch or to enjoy with a glass of white wine or other light cordial. Flavorful, yet not overpowering. |
